The event must be for a non-profit group or organization and must take place in the greater San Diego County area. Today Wild in the Country 2008
  This second annual event is a Benefit for Lions, Tigers & Bears, the only exotic Big Cat rescue facility in San Diego, the event will be held Saturday,May 17th, 2008, from 1-5 PM. Last year's event raised more than $65,000 which went in part towards the construction of our new Lion Enclosure and Tiger Trails, a play area to be used by our 4 tigers and 3 lions. Guests this year will get the opportunity to see the progress of Tiger Trails including the completion of a swimming pool, a portion of the inside perimeter fence, as well as our new picnic pavilion, enclosure for our recently rescued mountain lion, and much more!

This wild event will include live music from the Pine Creek Posse, entertainment by The Alpine Outlaws, live and silent auctions, pony rides, llama walks, fun activities for the kids, and a scrumptious barbecue feast from Phil's BBQ of San Diego! Guests will also have the opportunity to visit with the facilities rescued tigers, lions, leopard, serval and bobcats up close!

Tickets are $80 for adults/$95 After May 10th; $25 for kids (12 and under)

Today The 3rd Annual Arts & Tea Celebration
 

Join Home of Guiding Hands for a morning of art and tea! The 3rd Annual Arts & Tea Celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the Ronald Reagan Community Center in El Cajon.

Today Special Music Program for San Diego Unified School District Teachers K-6
 

On Saturday, May 17th from 1:00-5:00 PM, Guitars in the Classroom (GITC) in collaboration with Hornblower Cruises & Events, will offer a free professional development seminar for teachers at The Abbey, which is a Hornblower historic venue at 2825 5th Avenue in San Diego! This special music integration workshop will show teachers the basics of playing simple guitar, singing with students, teaching songs, and facilitating classroom songwriting while meeting state educational standards.

Mon May 19 FUNDRAISER FOR 9-YEAR-OLD CANCER VICTIM
  A fundraiser will be held at Callahan’s Restaurant, (858) 578- 7892,  for cancer victim, Taylor Hay, who was diagnosed in March with a rare form of pediatric cancer on Thursday, May 19th, from 5:00 to close. Taylor is just nine-years-old, and she and her family are struggling to meet the financial obligations that her illness has caused. The Callahan fundraiser will be the first of several offered to help the family get back on their feet. Attendees must bring a flyer which can be printed off of the website in order for a 15% donation to be made.

Wed May 21 “It’s All About The Kids!” Rally for Education
 

A rally for education will be held on Wednesday, May 21st to highlight the programs and staffing that are in danger of being eliminated due to the budget cuts. The rally will be held in the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot at 7:00 pm. The parking lot gates will open at 5:30 pm. High school bands, choirs, cheerleaders and a JROTC Color Guard will be featured at the rally. Winners of speech, essay and poster contests will be announced. Students are encouraged to wear their sports uniforms or school colors. The San Diego Unified Council of PTAs is sponsoring the rally.

Community Coaching Center (CCC) announces the 2008 Beach Bash for Autism, taking place on Saturday, May 31st at the Wave House in Mission Beach. The event features live bands, island food, drinks, games, silent auctions, raffles, wave riding and surf demos on famed Bruticus Maximus and more.

All proceeds will help CCC fulfill its mission to nurture the development of socially appropriate skills and behaviors in school aged individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders while promoting community acceptance and inclusion.

Festival of the Bells
  Come and help commemorate the 239th founding of Mission San Diego de Alcala’ California’s first Mission by participating in the celebration of “Festival of the Bells”
The festival will take place starting Friday July 11th from 5:00pm-9:00pm
Saturday July 12th from 10:00am- 9:30pm with Blessing of the Bells at 12:00 Noon,
Sunday July 13th from 11:00am to 7:00pm with Blessing of the animals at 3:00pm.

There will be food, raffles, games for children and adults, and plenty of entertainment for everyone including the “Corvettes” who will be performing on the festival stage Saturday July 12th from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

ONGOING: Letters of Hope for Military Personnel
 

The Letters of Hope organization is asking for, simply that.  Letters of hope to send to our military personnel who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Cards and letters that offer love, support and understanding for our military -- along with donations of simple comfort items that are on our soldiers' wish list, such as wash cloths, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, books, magazines, DVDS and any kind of packaged junk food (a fun treat from home).

Last year, Letters of Hope touched over 100 soldiers, and we're looking for even bigger and better support in the future!  There is a donation box at El Cajon Ford, 1595 E. Creative Expressions Art Studio is a non-profit organization. It's purpose is to keep art alive by: offering art work shops, art exposure,opportunities to express individual creativity, art scholarships to underprivileged families, and by supporting living/local artist. Their next art benefit 'Norma At Night and Friends' will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2008 from 2-8pm.   Goodwill Industries International is part of a national coalition educating the public about the February 2009 transition from analog (over-the-air) to all-digital broadcasting, which could leave some households without television reception unless steps are taken now. The federal government is offering a limited number of coupons for $40 that can be used toward the purchase of DTV converter boxes, which will allow consumers to continue to use their analog TV sets.
